Armenian Foreign Ministry hopes dialogue with Turkey to go on despite crisis

Yerevan, 12 July: The coordinator of the Turkish-Armenian Business Development Council, Noyan Soyak, believes that the positive development of Armenian-Turkish relations will be maintained despite the recent events in Turkey.

Noyan Soyak said in an interview with Mediamax news agency that Ismail Cem’s resignation from the post of Turkish foreign minister will not have a negative effect on the Armenian-Turkish dialogue.

“We hope that the authorities in Armenia and Turkey will continue their efforts to establish mutual understanding and mutually beneficial relations,” Noyan Soyak said in the interview.

Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan and the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Ismail Cem, who tendered his resignation on Thursday [11 July], had held three meetings this year.

Armenian Foreign Ministry press secretary Dzyunik Agadzhanyan expressed the hope that the Armenian-Turkish dialogue, which started several months ago, would continue irrespective of the political developments in Turkey, as “this meets the two neighbouring countries’ and nations’ interests”.
