Abdullah Gul regrets that Turkey-Armenia relations are far from the desired level

Yerevan, February 27. /Mediamax/. Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul regrets that Turkey-Armenia relations are far from the desired level.

Turkish Foreign Minister said this addressing a meeting at the International Relations Academy of Moscow on February 26, Mediamax reports quoting Anatolian agency.

Abdullah Gul said that Armenia had occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories, and noted that “Turkey has done everything in its power to resolve the Nagorno Karabakh problem.”

Turkish Foreign Minister said that he met with Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian for three times over Turkey’s likely contributions to efforts to resolve the dispute.

“We will be pleased with improving our relations with Armenia if further steps are taken to resolve the dispute,” said Abdullah Gul noting that “nearly one million Azerbaijani people have become refugees.”

Noting that Armenian Diaspora had been bringing the Armenian Genocide issue onto agenda frequently, Gul said, “those who are living a comfortable life outside Armenia do not contribute to improvement of relations between Turkey and Armenia with their attitude.

Abdullah Gul said that historians should deal with events of the past, pointing out that “the Ottoman Empire had never perpetrated any massacre or assimilation intentionally.” –0–
