| ETHNIC ARMENIAN ACEMOGHLU DOES NOT AGREE TO BE THE AMBASSADOR OF TURKEY

In its March 29 issue “Azg” daily reported that Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, speaking at “Turkey’s policies for engagement in the contemporary world” international conference organized by Wilton Park Organization in Istanbul, and responding to the question of the editor-in-chief of “Azg” said that Turkey will soon appoint an Armenian Ambassador to Paris. Later “Azg” daily ascertained that the candidate for the ambassador is economist, scientist from Istanbul Daron Acemoglu, and the institution to where he should be appointed as an ambassador is the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris. Davutoglu noted that he has received Acemoglu’s approval and the latter will start to officiate in a few months.
Yesterday, however, according to the report of the Turkish Radikal newspaper, the US Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor Daron Acemoglu issued a statement disclaiming the information placed in the Turkish press that he agreed to be appointed as a Turkish ambassador in the permanent representation of OECD (Organization of Economic Development and Cooperation). Acemoglu declared this through his assistant Loren Fahey. “Professor Acemoglu is deeply touched that he was offered the Turkish Ambassador post to OECD in Paris, but he cannot accept it because of the continuing heavy academic works in the near future, and he informed both Turkish Prime Minister and Foreign Minister about it”, said the assistant of the economist of Armenian origin.
