AZERI FM: A PROPGRESS ON VARIOUS ISSUES HAS BEEN ACHIEVED IN THE NEGOTIATION PROCESS

Yerevan, April 18. /Mediamax/. “A progress on various issues has been achieved in the process of Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement”, Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mamedyaov stated.

Azeri FM said this in the interview to BBC following the meeting of foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in London April 15, Mediamax reports.

“We have once again confirmed the Prague process and determined the key directions of the future work. And, basically, progress on various issues has been marked. However, there are many other issues on which we should keep working. This is why we have decided to meet again in Frankfurt on April 27,” Elmar Mamedyarov stated.

In reply to the question “What is a necessary and sufficient condition for Baku to advance the negotiation process?,” Azeri FM said:

“First for all, we speak of the liberation of 7 regions, return of displaced persons there, restoration of communications, restoration of people’s normal life, restoration of the demographic situation in the region, and thus, given corresponding security guarantees, advance the long-expected peace, both Azeris and, I am sure, Armenians have

dreamed of for so many years.

This is a very sensitive process, but decisions are to be made. Wecannot live in the 21st century realizing that there is an occupation of territories, ethnic cleansings and full expatriation of the native population from their permanent residences. The peace formula envisages co-existence and co-operation but not delimitation and rising of barriers between two communities.”

“There is a definite limit of compromises. When we speak about the liberation of occupied territories, I don’t think there is a chance tospeak about compromises from the Azeri side. We are the victims, our lands have been occupied, our people exiled from their homes, and in

this context we have only one position: the people should return,”Elmar Mamedyarov stated. –0–
