Who is who in shaping the Armenia-Turkey debate

For more than three years ESI’s multinational research team, based in Berlin, Istanbul and Yerevan, has published research on the past, present and future of Turkish-Armenian relations. These have included the report “Noah’s Dove Returns” on Turkish-Armenian relations (April 2009), “Red herrings in Turkish-Armenian Debate” (June 2009), an op-ed on the issue of genocide recognition) and a dedicated website on “Turkey-Armenia: the Great Debate” (August 2009).
| Though bilateral relations have not yet normalized, and the border remains closed, some encouraging trends have continued. There have been an increasing number of visits, political dialogue, exchanges and conferences. There has been more media coverage and informed debate in at least some influential circles. More individuals and institutions in Armenia and in Turkey are working on bilateral relations and related issues than ever before. |
In order to make a further contribution and facilitate debate a team of ESI analysts has put together the following “Turkey Armenia manual”.
We are also pleased that the award winning ESI documentary film series “Return to Europe” – describing the transformations in South East Europe in the past decade – has been dubbed into Armenian. It has been shown on the Armenian TV station “Yerkir Media TV” early this year. Every broadcast of the film was followed by local expert discussions on the topics touched upon in the films and their relevance for Armenia where possible. The series will continue to be shown in Armenia. For more details, visit the film website.
